Oregano Essential Oil

A Potent Antibiotic for your Winter First Aid Kit

Oregano (Origanum compactum) has a heavy, spicy, pungent aroma that creates feelings of security. It has strong immune-enhancing qualities and also supports the respiratory and digestive systems.* The chemo-type of Young Living's® Oregano is Carvacrol.
The Oregano plant has proven to be the most powerful and effective natural antibiotic available - not the Oregano used to season tomato sauce. Of the more than 40 species of Oregano that grow around the world, only certain types contain a phenolic compound, Carvacrol as its primary active ingredient. Carvacrol possesses powerful antimicrobial properties. The best known of these species is Origanum Vulgare, which has been used repeatedly in scientific studies confirming the germ-fighting powers of Oregano.
Oregano oil containing higher concentrations of this phenolic compound have shown to be more effective in destroying pathogens and healing infectious illness and disease. Thymol is another phenol that works synergistically with Carvacrol to boost its effectiveness. At low concentrations, Thymol contributes significantly to Oregano's overall effects. Like other plant-derived phenols, Carvacrol and Thymol destroy pathogenic microorganisms by disintegrating their cell wall.
Oil of Oregano has a variety of medicinal properties, but first and foremost, it is a full-spectrum antimicrobial. Tests have confirmed its ability to rapidly destroy all types of germs that cause infection - viruses, bacteria, fungi and parasites.
With its many therapeutic uses, Oil of Oregano can be used internally and externally to treat a variety of health conditions:
  • Colds & Flues (combats viruses, while relieving sore throat, congestion and cough)
  • Skin conditions (acne, psoriasis, eczema, dandruff, lice, nail fungus)
  • Respiratory and sinus conditions (bronchitis, sinusitis, pneumonia, rhinitis, allergies)
  • Inflamed muscles and joints (athletic injuries, sprains and strains, arthritis, bursitis, tendonitis, carpal tunnel syndrome)
  • Burns, wounds, blisters, cuts and scrapes
  • Toothaches, gum disease, cold sores, disinfects mouth
  • Digestive conditions (gas, diarrhea, heartburn, ulcers, parasites, candida, and more.)

Suggested external use:

Apply oil of oregano topically, using your hand or finger to work the oil into the infected or sore area. Repeat several times a day and before bed. Heat sensation and temporary redness of the skin is normal. If necessary, dilute in olive oil according to skin sensitivity (1:1, 1:2, 1:3, 1:4).

Suggested internal use:

The recommended adult dosage is 5 drops at a time; three to five times a day is sufficient for the majority of infections. For more virulent infections, take up to 10 dosages in a 24-hour period.
